Welcome/About Me

Dear Students,

Welcome to my Spanish class! Or, should I say, "Bienvenidos todos a mi clase de Español!" My name is Mr. Pablo Mena and I am delighted to be your Spanish 1 teacher for this school year.

As a beginner-level course, we will cover all the basic mechanics of the Spanish language, including syntax and grammar, vocabulary, and verb tenses. I plan to guide you toward learning about every major aspect of Hispanic culture, from food to clothing and traditions and customs, and how to talk about these topics by using unique words and phrases commonly used by people in the Spanish-speaking world. I also intend to use a wide variety of teaching styles and activities to guide you in this journey, so that it may be an interactive, engaging, and exciting one. These activities can include reading short picture books, watching videos, listening to songs, and playing vocabulary games.

I would also like to take this opportunity to share a little bit about myself. I am a first-generation Mexican-American who grew up speaking Spanish at home with my parents. I also travel to Mexico frequently (around once per year) and occasionally to other countries such as Spain as well to visit extended family. I am trilingual (also fluent in French) because I attended and graduated from the French-American School of New York. I then graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in Economics and although I initially began working as a writer and editor, I have now been teaching full-time for X years. My hobbies include traveling (both at home and abroad), reading sci-fi/fantasy novels, watching sitcoms and mystery/suspense TV series, going to the gym/running, and cooking Mexican and Italian dishes.

I am excited to go on this journey with you this year, and I hope you will learn as much as possible and never hesitate to ask questions.

Sincerely,

Señor Mena.
