Rules/Classroom Requirements

I hope that all of you can learn a great deal from this course and I genuinely hope that you can enjoy it as well. However, there are certain rules and minimum requirements that all students are expected to follow and meet in order for all of us to have a successful school year and learning experience.

Rules:

1. Respect above all else: Just as I plan to respect and be kind to all of you,  every student will always be expected to treat everyone in the class with respect and kindness. Regardless of how different someone's background, personal opinions, approaches to issues, interests, and abilities may be, I believe this is crucial to creating a positive classroom environment. Demeaning or offensive comments will not be tolerated in the classroom.

2.  Do not interrupt anyone: This rule is related to the first rule above. Interrupting is a sign of disrespect and can create tension. Always let everyone finish a comment or question.

3. Do not be verbally or physically disruptive in the classroom: This includes shouting/being loud, running, or throwing objects around. This type of behavior can severely affect the learning experience and can in extreme cases lead to chaos in the classroom.

4. Do not lie or cheat: Any student that is caught copying another student or person's work (including plagiarism) or being dishonest in any way will be reprimanded accordingly.

5. Have fun! Be curious, ask questions, and share your personal experiences (as long as they are appropriate for a classroom setting and use appropriate language). One of my primary goals as your teacher is for you to see the value and practical purpose of each topic or assignment.

Requirements:

1. Arrive to class on time: All students will be expected to always come to class on time. If you will arrive late or need to leave early for any reason, you are required to leave a note/permission slip with your arrival/departure time and reason for your tardiness/early dismissal.

2. Obtain all necessary textbooks/materials: All students are expected to have all the materials required for the course in their possession when it begins. This includes textbooks, worksheets (e.g. for vocab), and technology tools (laptops and software/online learning programs installed and downloaded). Any technology issues can be resolved through the school's IT department.

3. Meet deadlines for all homework and complete each part of each assignment: Every student will be expected to turn in homework assignments on time and complete each section of these assignments, even if it means asking a question for parts that are unclear or difficult.

4. Receive a passing score on all assignments and exams: All students must receive a passing score (66/100 or higher) on all assignments in order to successfully pass the course.

5. Always try to speak Spanish first before English: An obvious but important rule: always attempt to find the correct Spanish terminology for a word, phrase, or sentence.
